So I have some exciting news...well exciting for me at least. I'm moving to THIRD grade! I'm moving to the BIG kid hallway...eek! I'm so excited I can barely stand it. Why you ask?!?
I have taught first grade for about 17 years so don't get me wrong...there are plenty of amazing things going on with 7 year olds. I love the growth in reading and writing, I love teaching phonics and reading too! But it's time to move on and I'm very excited for the new challenge.
I will still be creating lower elementary resources that you have come to know, however I'm adding 3rd grade ones as well. If you are an upper grade teacher this might be the perfect pack for BTS for you.
Here is a new pack for firsties and K's...I have found so many fluency packets that were too difficult for beginner readers - so I created one.
I hope you got a little kick out of my top 10 reasons for my change...I will always love my time with my sweet firsties but am looking forward to sharing what I'm up to with the big kids too.

You are going to rock your new gig!!!!!!!!!!!!

DeleteHi Vicky! We have SO much in common, just the other way around. I'm leaving third this year and going to first!! Haha! And about that #7...I've had a few nose pickers...only one eater though so I guess that's not too bad ;) And teaching multiplication is AWESOME! When you teach them little tricks they think you're the smartest human being on earth. It's great :) Good luck this year. I look forward to hearing all about it!

Now I am depressed. I teach 6th at a middle school, and too many of the things on your list sound familiar!
ReplyDeleteOh no!!! Really?!?! LOL
DeleteYou will really enjoy 3rd grade! I love how 3rd graders can create some really cool projects :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited Heather!
DeleteSO happy for you! Congrats on the big move!
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing out loud. So right on! I love my little firsties too, but these are definitely the challenges. Ha, ha! I'm so happy for you though! It sounds like you will be really happy teaching 3rd. :) Yay!
ReplyDeleteThird grade is awesome. I have been in 3rd grade for the past 14 years and will retire from here. I have taught other grades but this is my favorite. You will enjoy their independence and the fact they still love their teacher.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the move! I am moving to 3rd grade this year as well from 2nd and must admit I am excited about many of the same things you mentioned!
